James Ross Healthcare /Chiropractor Bristol

Chiropractic

Chiropractic treatment aims to improve body movement by unlocking joint restrictions and optimising the function of the nervous system which in turn leads to reduction in pain. You will undergo an assessment with a registered chiropractor, which will involve relevant orthopaedic, neurological and movement testing leading to an individualised treatment plan.

Modern living has essentially removed the need to use our body to live. Mechanisation and automation of daily chores have freed us up to sit at a desk all day and push buttons. The down side of this is twofold. Firstly, if you don’t use it, you lose it when it comes the body, at this moment in time lack of proper physical activity is contributing to more deaths than smoking. Secondly, movement is fundamental to not only how you get around in the world, but how you experience it. Poor movement, injuries and/or life stress can and do lead to acute or chronic pain, which is a clear sign from your body that something needs to change

Our Belief

Chiropractic care can have a huge impact on enhancing the quality of people’s lives by enabling the body to function, both mechanically and neurologically, as it should. The aim of chiropractic care is to unlock joint restrictions to optimise these functions. Once any joint restrictions have been released a window of opportunity is created to introduce movement and strength into these once dysfunctional areas.

Adjustments are only a part of your chiropractic care plan here at James Ross Healthcare. To achieve optimum rehabilitation it very much requires the combined input from your practitioner in clinic and you in-between sessions. Expecting a passive manual therapy to fix someone is like asking a personal trainer to work out for you and expecting to become fitter. This is why alongside our chiropractic care we provide pre/rehabilitative exercise programs which we believe are essential to regain and maintain optimal musculoskeletal and neurological function.

Our aim is not for clients not to be dependent on their chiropractic care to live with pain but to be able to self-manage and limit the experience of discomfort in everyday life through the understanding of their condition and programs provided.

Due to the individual nature of patient recovery, time being so varied and diagnosis specific we do not feel block bookings are necessary or precise. A guideline as to the number of treatments expected for a recovery will be discussed at your first treatment and reassessed as you go.

What to Expect

The treatment begins with an initial assessment. This involves history taking, a movement screen and relevant orthopaedic and neurological testing. This will lead to a diagnosis, which will then be explained to you. The diagnosis will determine the required treatment plan, which your practitioner will discuss and agree with you. Your treatment plan will be reassessed at each subsequent session as speed of progress varies with each individual.

The treatment plan will include rehabilitation exercises, which is individualised to yourself and key to achieving overall success and wellbeing. This will require proactive engagement outside of clinic.

Once the desired goal is achieved this can lead to maintenance care and include occasional visits to the clinic alongside maintenance exercise programme if required.

Techniques

MCTIMONEY CHIROPRACTIC

McTimoney Chiropractic is especially well suited to people with acute injuries or those highly sensitive to pain due to utilising a gentle, holistic whole body approach by applying quick, specific, light adjustments to improve the function of the musculoskeletal and nervous system to facilitate the body to heal itself.

DIVERSIFIED CHIROPRACTIC

Diversified Chiropractic aims to improve joint and neurological function through using high velocity, low amplitude (HVLA) adjustments. This Chiropractic technique is probably the most common and most recognised by patients due to the cracking/popping sound made by the adjustment.

Both these techniques are simply two different approaches to reach the same outcome, which it to achieve optimal function and improve quality of life. As our Dr of Chiropractic is qualified in both techniques he can use a combination of both techniques appropriate to the condition being treated.
